Six Nations Farmers get increase to plant white corn

Six Nations Elected Council’s (SNEC) general finance committee approved an increase of $5000 to $15,000 for the Six Nations Farmers Association (SNFA) to plant 30 acres of white corn which will again be free to the community. “The whole purpose was to be able to establish a way we can work together to help the community sustainably with white corn in the community,” Jesse Porter, president of the SNFA said. The SNFA has been planting white corn in the community for more than a decade and usually plant about 25 acres with a $10,000 contribution from SNEC, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Porter said costs have risen about $1,400.
