Riverside County is working through some challenges they faced during the first day of vaccinations at their drive-up clinic at the Indio Fairgrounds.
“Every time someone comes and they’re not in the proper phase or they didn’t make an appointment, they’re making passion pleas to our staff there trying to get in, Shane Reichardt with Riverside County Emergency Management Department told News Channel 3 on Monday.
People experienced long lines and delays at the clinic on Sunday. The county says people without an appointment or in the wrong tier of their vaccination plan will be turned away.
You have farmers, wineries, breweries, you have pharmaceutical companies, said Mid-State Containers managing director Jake Knotts. This is the first time we ve experienced hospitals and morgues and mortuaries calling us asking us for immediate cold storage because they are kind of in a crisis mode.
Knotts says over the past few weeks his company has rented out dozens of containers to hospitals and morgues all over the state, most of them in Southern California where the COVID-19 death toll continues to climb daily. We are seeing a real big demand for San Bernardino and Riverside counties right now, Knotts said. We have eight scheduled to go to Riverside County starting this week.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) It s a race against COVID-19 as Riverside County Public Health officials begin rolling out more vaccines. On Wednesday, the county made more available to healthcare workers and first responders. Our goal is really to vaccinate as many people as possible. We got phase-1A and all their tiers and we re trying to get the pole through the vaccination process as soon as possible so they are protected from COVID-19, Shane Reichardt with the Riverside County Emergency Management Department.
On Tuesday, an invitation was sent out to all tier 1A workers about the availability of the Moderna vaccine. In less than 24-hours, all 1,000 appointments at its two distributions sites were filled.
