EnergyAustralia commits to carbon-neutral gas plant

EnergyAustralia commits to carbon-neutral gas plant Updated Save Share EnergyAustralia’s decision to build a gas-powered plant in NSW’s Illawarra region has sharpened the focus on the federal government’s proposal to build a separate gas plant in the Hunter Valley, which could render Andrew Forrest’s planned Port Kembla generation venture unviable. The Tallawarra B power station to be built by EnergyAustralia has been in the pipeline for about 10 years and finally got the go-ahead after deals were signed for more than $80 million of government money. It will be the country’s first carbon-neutral power station, with green hydrogen to be part of the fuel mix, while carbon emissions from gas use will be offset.

Like national defence, quarantine is ultimately a Commonwealth responsibility. We face potential aggression from foreign countries as a nation, not as individual states and territories. Any proposal to fund separate armies, navies and air forces would be laughed at as ludicrous. Defence is up to the Commonwealth. Neither in a pandemic should the states and territories have to scrabble to find money for quara

Victoria targets 45-50pc emissions cut by 2030

Victoria targets 45-50pc emissions cut by 2030 May 2, 2021 – 5.30pm Save Share Victoria wants half of all new car sales in the state to be zero emissions vehicles by 2030 as it targets a cut in carbon emissions of as much as 50 per cent by the end of the decade. The aggressive new interim targets for emissions reduction, including a cut of between 28 and 33 per cent by 2025, look set to add to mounting pressure on the federal government to take tougher action on climate change. The closure of the Yallourn power station in mid-2028 will make Victoria’s 2030 emissions target easier to meet.
