The Ecology Building Society has revamped its green mortgages for renovations and whole house retrofit, as its contribution towards the UK’s climate change targets.
The West Yorkshire-based lender has introduced a new variable rate renovation product, which starts at an initial rate of 3.65 per cent while building work is underway.
But once the renovation is complete, borrowers are eligible for a discount of 0.25 per cent for every energy rating step improvement, based on the Energy Performance Certificate of the property, up to a maximum discount of 1.50 per cent.

SIR – The idea of pubs opening in April and not being able to sell alcohol (report, February 6) is absurd. It takes no consideration of the hardship that publicans across the country have faced over the previous trading year.
Publicans make money from alcohol and food sales. In my experience as a publican, I have never made a serious amount on soft-drink sales alone. We must also consider the damage that such a policy would do to the wider supply chain. Breweries ultimately rely on selling alcoholic products to pubs.

SIR – What an inspiration to us all! No snowflake he, but an example of the anthracite generation – tough, burning brightly to the end.

SIR – If we decide to have a memorial day to remember those lost to the pandemic, what better date than February 2, when Captain Sir Tom slipped away?

SIR – If there is to be a medal awarded to frontline health workers it would be a fitting tribute to a remarkable man if it were named after Captain Sir Tom Moore.

SIR – How about a statue of Captain Sir Tom Moore on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square with the inscription: “Tomorrow will be a Good Day”?
