The LR2 vessel, second in a series of 10, is said to be 20% more fuel-efficient than similar vessels she will replace in the existing fleet and meets the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) phase 3 requirements applicable from 2025. Maersk Sara is equipped with deepwell cargo pumps – an installation that increases cargo carriage flexibility and can save up to 50% fuel at every discharge, Maersk Tankers said. The series  first six ships were ordered in May 2018, and options for the final four vessel were exercised in May 2019. The lead vessel, Maersk Sandra, was delivered from DSIC in August 2020.

The vessel is designed to meet the latest requirements of Energy Efficiency Design Index related to Green House Gas, GHG emissions, ‘EEDI, Phase 3’. It will also comply with the latest NOx emissions regulation, NOx-Tier III.

Safe Bulkers invests in another eco-efficient newbuild Monaco-based bulker owner Safe Bulkers has acquired a Japanese-built Post-Panamax class, 87,000 dwt, eco-efficient newbuild vessel. The vessel is designed to meet the latest requirements of Energy Efficiency Design Index related to greenhouse gas, EEDI, Phase 3. Once delivered in the third quarter of 2022, it will also comply with the latest NOx emissions regulation, NOx-Tier III. Separately, Safe Bulkers has secured a new term loan facility of up to 60% post-delivery financing of this acquisition, an increase of the commitment under the existing revolving credit facility from $20 million to $30 million. The loan will have its maturity date extended from 2022, by up to 2 years under the same preexisting financial covenants.

The vessel, scheduled for delivery within third quarter of 2022, will be designed to meet the latest requirements of Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). Financial details of the newbuilding order deal were not disclosed. Meanwhile, New York-listed Safe Bulkers said it has entered into an agreement for a new term loan facility of up to 60% post-delivery financing of the vessel purchase. The loan is an increase of its commitment under the existing revolving credit facility from $20m to $30m, and the extension of its maturity date by up to two years from 2022.
