New UV sanitisers added to Glasgow subway system to reduce coronavirus spread GLASGOW subway has now added UV santisers to all its escalator handrails. The new UV sanitisers are designed to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in public space and reassure passengers travelling and subway staff working on the system. Funding for this additional hygiene safety measure came from Transport Scotland’s Public Transport Retrofit Fund administered by the Energy Saving Trust in February this year. As well as the UV sanitisers on all escalator handrails, the funding has also enabled us to purchase two additional fogging machines for use on trains and in stations.
