NATIONAL Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds will be replaced as chairman of the Parliament s National Security Joint Select Committee. The change has become necessary as a result of Hinds assuming his new ministerial portfolio on Monday.
Hinds was assigned to this portfolio by the Prime Minister, after his immediate predecessor Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Stuart Young was appointed Energy Minister, after the death of Franklin Khan last Saturday. Young will continue his duties in the OPM.

Doha: Minister of State for Energy Affairs H E Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, presided over the annual coordination meeting between Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and the electricity and water producing companies in Qatar, which aimed to review plans and preparations to meet expected demand, and face the expected challenges for the summer season.
The meeting, which was held remotely yesterday, was attended by President of Kahramaa Eng. Essa Hilal Al Kuwari; Managing Director of Qatar Electricity and Water Company Mohammed Nasser Al Hajri and senior executives from producing companies.

The Prime Minister has extended condolences to the family of Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Franklin Khan.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister on Saturday said Dr Rowley is extremely saddened by the passing of his colleague and friend “who will be remembered as a man who dedicated his life to public service.”
It added: “Dr Rowley mourns the loss of a patriot and son of the spoil.”
Jakarta, 13 April 2021: The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) hosted a press conference on the key role that hydrogen will play in realising ASEAN and East Asia s goal of carbon neutrality. The event was opened by Mr Koji Hachiyama, the COO of ERIA, who introduced the context for the use of hydrogen in the region. In line with the 7th Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations, ASEAN and East Asian Summit countries need to seriously promote the use of renewable sources, energy efficiency and energy transition measures to cleaner fuels. The use of new energy technologies such as carbon capture usage and storage or carbon recycling and hydrogen should also be incorporated along with the adoption of clean technologies. Hydrogen technology, in particular, should play a key role as an alternative to fossil fuels and can be applied across sectors not only in industry but also in power generation and transportation, said Mr Hachiyama.
