Groves joining Noble County Prosecutor as new chief deputy

ALBION — Noble County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Mowery has announced that Jamie M. Groves will be the office’s next chief deputy prosecutor starting March 1. Groves will replace Adam Mildred, who has served as chief deputy since Mowery took over as prosecutor in 2019. Mildred recently resigned to return to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, which is where he was previously employed before joining Noble County’s staff. Groves is a 1990 graduate of Indiana University and a 1997 graduate of Indiana University’s Mauer School of Law in Indianapolis. Groves comes to Noble County from Allen County, where he presently serves a deputy prosecutor in charge of a major felony case load that includes robbery, burglary, attempted murder and most felony violent crimes. Suspects arrested in armed robbery Police DELPHOS Delphos Police believe they have arrested all the suspects in a complaint of an armed robbery reported on Saturday. According to a press release, city police, along with Allen County Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate an armed robbery in the 600 block of East Sixth Street in Delphos. After interviewing several witnesses and several suspects who may have been involved, suspects were located and taken into custody. Criminal charges will be considered by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office before any charges are filed against the individuals involved. The incident remains under investigation.

No charges in shooting death of Lima 16-year-old Williams LIMA The November shooting death of a Lima juvenile was a case of self-defense, an Allen County grand jury determined this month. A joint press release issued Monday by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and Lima Police Department confirmed that Mekhi Williams died Nov. 18 of multiple gunshot wounds, but grand jurors determined the shooter, Zachary Copeland, was justified in his actions. He was not charged. On Nov. 18, officers from the Lima Police Department responded to a fatal shooting in the 300 block of South Scott Street. Upon their arrival officers found the 16-year-old Williams deceased.

Coroner IDs fatal crash victims The Journal Gazette The Allen County coroner s office has identified the victims from two separate fatal crashes. Gwendolyn Martin, 63, of Fort Wayne, was the victim of a fatal crash in the 5100 block of McClellan Street Monday night. Martin was the owner of the home that was struck by an out-of-control car that left the road, the coroner said. Martin s cause of death has been ruled as blunt force injuries of the chest from a motor vehicle crash. Her death has been ruled an accident. The coroner s office has also identified a man who died in a crash this morning in the 3700 block of Washington Boulevard as Ricardo B. Araujo, 63, of Fort Wayne.
