Northern Territory nurses and midwives have been recognised tonight in Darwin at the 2021 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards in a year of record nominations.
More than 140 nominations were received across nine categories recognising the outstanding efforts of nurses and midwives from all over the Territory over the past 12 months.
The 2021 gala event recognised both finalists and overall winners for 2020 and 2021, after the 2020 awards were postponed due to COVID-19.
All nurses and midwives who hold a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and are employed in the Northern Territory at the time of nomination or within 12 months of nomination are eligible for the annual awards.

Police lay charges – Pedestrian strike – Barkly region
A 48-year-old man will appear before Darwin Local Court charged in relation to an incident in which a female pedestrian was struck on a remote location along the Stuart highway in Central Australia last month.
At 8:40pm on 19 April, a 47-year-old woman was walking north on the Stuart Highway 15km south of Barrow Creek when she was struck by a passing vehicle.
The man stopped the vehicle immediately after the crash, but fled into nearby bushland on foot after he was confronted by a family members of the victim.
The family members caused extensive damage to the man’s vehicle prior to police arrival.
Northern Territory Police have apprehended two people following an unlawful entry in Alice Springs overnight.
Police responded to a report of group of people acting suspiciously along George Crescent just after 2:20am.
On arrival police found a shed had been unlawfully entered and offenders had stolen a quantity of alcohol before leaving the area.
Members from Operation Livingstone established a cordon and deployed the police drone and Police Dogs Quake and Fitzy tracked two offenders lying in a nearby drain off of Bloomfield Street.
The offenders ran from the scene and Police Dog Quake chased and apprehended the 19-year-old man. A 15-year-old male was apprehended by police following a short pursuit on foot.

A vigil has been held for a prominent domestic violence campaigner who was allegedly murdered outside the Alice Springs hospital in January.
As a symbol of their mourning, branches from a nearby eucalyptus tree were carried by family and friends to sweep the path nearby the site where they lost R. Rubuntja.
