Tempeh vs. tofu
What s old is new again. We re not talking about mom jeans. Both tempeh and tofu have been around for hundreds of years, and their popularity is skyrocketing today.
In 2020, tempeh and tofu sales jumped 41 percent, according to the Plant Based Foods Association. They re great sources of healthy plant-based protein, and unlike, say, Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, tempeh and tofu have short, simple ingredient lists.
Nutritionists love them because they re incredibly healthy, versatile, and surprisingly inexpensive.

There’s no other way to put it: Tyson Foods Inc.’s first attempt at an alt-meat burger was a flop.
Two years ago, the biggest U.S. meat company marketed a mix of real beef and pea protein to consumers with a “flexible diet.” But the half-vegan, half-not patty proved a tough sell. Tyson eventually discontinued it, saying only that it “constantly evaluates products.”
Now it’s back and trying again. On Monday, the maker of Jimmy Dean sausages unveiled a lineup of 100% vegan meat products including fresh patties, ground “beef,” fake bratwurst and Italian sausage. It’s the company’s most ambitious bet on alternative proteins, and builds on recent moves by other meat giants, including JBS SA and Marfrig, to cash in on the rapidly growing market.

US: Consumers preferences for produce often don t match up with their behavior, report finds
Many consumers purchasing behavior around produce conflicts with their beliefs around food waste, nutrition and local shopping, according to The American Food Journey report from Lettuce Grow and The Farm Project, a group co-founded by actor Zooey Deschanel to reconnect people with food and support small farmers. The study surveyed 1,500 U.S. residents over 18 about their food system knowledge, preferences and behavior. Although 80% of survey respondents listed locally grown produce as a top priority, 60% admitted they do not know the origins of their supermarket produce. About two-thirds (67%) of respondents said they are concerned with the number of human touchpoints on their fruits and vegetables, but 1 in 5 millennials admit to not knowing why they wash their produce.
