Writing in the journal Science, the 40 scientists say: A paradigm shift is needed on the scale that occurred when Chadwick s Sanitary Report in 1842 led the British government to encourage cities to organise clean water supplies and centralised sewage systems.

North Cumbrian Covid-19 patients helped life-saving research

The NHS trust which runs The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven has proved to be a top recruiter nationally for the scheme, known as the Randomised Evaluation of Covid-19 therapy (RECOVERY trial). Since its launch in March 2020, the trial - coordinated by Oxford University - has delivered compelling evidence on the efficacy of six treatments, including dexamethasone, a drug which was saves some of the most seriously ill Covid-19 patients.

COVID Platinum met this afternoon and had a lengthy discussion which included, at the Chief Minister’s invitation, doctors Cortes, Bhatti and Rawal as well as Assistant Commissioner Cathal Yeats. In their communication to the Chief Minister the medical professionals highlighted their concern about the number of new COVID-19 diagnoses continuing to increase unabated. They described this is an extremely worrying trajectory with a 7-day rolling rate per 100,000 that puts Gibraltar’s growth curve at near vertical.
