GCs must ‘authentically speak’ about D&I journeys By Jerome Doraisamy|18 May 2021 In the wake of findings that diversity and inclusion is the top priority for law departments, general counsel have a duty to drive change in the right ways. Last week, Lawyers Weekly reported that – according to the 2021 CLOC State of the Industry report, complied by Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC), together with the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and which surveyed over 200 organisations across the globe, spanning over 22 industries in 21 countries – implementing a diversity and inclusion program is the top-ranked issue in 2021 for law departments. D&I beat out six other options for the top spot, with more than six in 10 (61 per cent) of respondents viewing it as a high priority. 27 per cent of the balance of respondents see it as a medium priority, and 12 per cent see it as a low priority.

Global law firm King & Wood Mallesons has released its 2021 Directions survey, which was conducted last month and explores the views of 235 company directors and senior business leaders regarding their reform priorities in areas including but not limited to taxation, foreign investment, employee relations and infrastructure. Mandating vaccinations The results show that over four in five (82 per cent) of respondents believe that employers should have the right to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for their staff in at least some circumstances.

Australia undergoing ‘drastic’ supply chain changes By Jerome Doraisamy|11 May 2021 Of all nations in the Asia-Pacific region, Australia appears to be in the midst of the most significant shifts in supply chains, production centres and attractiveness of alternate sources of supply. Global law firm Baker McKenzie has published its State of play: Supply chains and trade realignment report, which surveyed over 800 business leaders across APAC in the first quarter of 2021 about trade disputes and increasing protectionism. The findings show that two in three (67 per cent) of businesses in the Asia-Pacific region are in the process of transforming their supply chains and production centres, or they have already done so. Those based in Australia and Japan, the firm said, are “planning for the most drastic change” of all nations in the region.

The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC), together with the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) (which acted as a research consultant), has released the 2021 CLOC State of the Industry report, for which they surveyed over 200 organisations across the globe, spanning over 22 industries in 21 countries.  The breakdown of organisations surveyed was: 45 per cent large companies (more than US$10 billion), 31 per cent medium-sized companies ($1-$10 billion) and 24 per cent small companies (less than $1 billion).
