Up to 35% of retail alcoholic beverage licensees and 20% of state licensees may not renew in the new year due to the COVID-19 pandemic s major economic toll on bars and restaurants, according to Massachusetts Treasurer Deb Goldberg. The outlook for fiscal year 2022 is not strong, Goldberg told lawmakers Tuesday during a hearing on state revenue expectations for the next budget cycle.
NORTHBORO A hearing with the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission to determine whether there were violations of COVID-19 restrictions at The Texas BBQ Company was canceled after the owners turned in their liquor license and announced last month they are permanently closing the business.
A spokesman for the ABCC said the hearing, which was rescheduled in November, wouldn t be held because the 309 Main St. business is closed.
On social media, less than two weeks after announcing the barbecue restaurant would close temporarily, owners David and Linda Brannon thanked their customers and explained why the business wouldn t be reopening. With a heavy heart we unfortunately announce that The Texas BBQ Company is permanently closed. We had hoped to open again in the spring when outdoor dining was an option again, they wrote.
TEMPLETON - The Thirsty Turtle Pub has reopened after the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission reversed an earlier decision to suspend the bar s license, a decision that came, in part, after a patron pulled on the mask of a state investigator and told her, You don t need these in here.
The pub, in the Baldwinville section of town, was penalized after investigators visited just before 9 p.m. on Oct. 9, a Friday, and found several patrons and the bartenders unmasked.
Patrons were walking around the pub with drinks and were not seated or masked in accordance with COVID-19 regulations, they wrote.
