A massive blaze at a north St. Albert seniors’ complex that displaced more than 160 residents overnight was extinguished Friday morning as support from the community poured in.

A massive blaze at a St. Albert long-term care home has displaced more than 100 seniors who have been forced to find lodging elsewhere.
St. Albert RCMP received a call to assist the local fire service with a structure fire at the Citadel Mews located at 15 Erin Ridge Rd. around 8 p.m. on Thursday. A few minutes later, Edmonton Fire Rescue Service was called to lend support. Edmonton fire spokesman Rowan Anderson said the whole building had been evacuated.

Three people were hospitalized after a massive fire broke out at a seniors residence in St. Albert, northwest of Edmonton Thursday night.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and were in serious condition, and a third person suffered minor lacerations, officials said, after fire engulfed the Citadel Mews West Continuing Care Facility just before 8 p.m.
City of St. Albert spokesperson Cory Sinclair said both continuing care residents and independent living residents were evacuated from the building.
