Driver in erratic driving crash that killed 2 pedestrians in southwest Calgary dies of injuries
The driver whose erratically driven vehicle struck and killed two pedestrians last Saturday has died from injuries he sustained in the crash.

EDMONTON A former RCMP officer, convicted of multiple crimes including fraud and harassment, will not be allowed to practice in the pharmacy profession, a tribunal has ruled. The Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) announced on Wednesday that it had cancelled the registration of now former student, Aaron Sayler, citing his past conduct. In September 2018, Sayler was found guilty of four theft and fraud related charges. In 2019, he was charged and convicted with criminal harassment and mischief. A hearing tribunal for ACP ruled that Sayler failed to act with honesty and integrity during the criminal trial in 2019. An ACP press release noted that while Sayler’s criminal activity did not have anything to do with pharmacy or health, the tribunal found his conduct was still unprofessional.

Investigation into police contact before fatal collision
On Dec. 12, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding a single-vehicle collision that took place that same day, and which followed an attempted vehicle stop by members of the Calgary Police Service (CPS). The collision resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians and serious injury to the 52-year-old driver of the vehicle.

At about 6:54 p.m., CPS received a complaint of a silver Acura travelling at a high rate of speed in the 1300 block of 17 Avenue in southwest Calgary. Police initially located the vehicle driving through the intersection of 17 Avenue and 37 Street, but were unable to maintain contact. At about 6:58 p.m., police again located the vehicle stopped at the intersection of 69 Street and 17 Avenue, and initiated a traffic stop just west of 69

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has released more details about what happened before a car hit and killed a man and a woman crossing the street at 17th Avenue and 85th Street S.W.
ASIRT says Calgary police got the first call about a speeding Acura at 6:54 p.m. Saturday around 13th Street and 17th Avenue S.W. and about four minutes later had stopped the vehicle around 69th Street, but before police could even speak with the driver, he sped away.
