Kananaskis had one million more visitors in 2020 than Banff National Park that’s the total number of visitors that would typically go through the tolls at the Calgary Stampede. And it’s great to see so many Albertans appreciating parks and public lands in Kananaskis Country. However, the increased popularity of this area means we continue to have to increase services in the area as well as deal with the environmental impact of hosting 5.4 million visitors in a year.
We asked Albertans their thoughts on sustainable recreation, and the majority were supportive of user fees as long as it is going back to the park. That is exactly what the Kananaskis Conservation Pass will do. Revenue from the pass will be reinvested directly back into the high-quality amenities and services needed in Kananaskis Country for generations to come and for those using it now.

The Helmer Dam Fish Habitat Suitability Study Phase 1 report was presented to the Hanna Town Council at their April meeting.
In the report it was noted that here had been concerns over the viability of the Helmer Dam as a recreational fishing are because of less than satisfactory water quality.

The Town elected to apply for funding through the Alberta Conservation Association in January 2020 to undertake a revitalization of Helmer Dam to improve the water and habitat quality. The idea behind it being it would support recreational fishing in the area.
