Broward County members of the nation s oldest Black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., came out to especially celebrate their fellow sorority sister, Vice President Harris alongside President Biden.
About 50 people Wednesday, some camped out in chairs and some in their cars, watched the inauguration ceremony for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on a large screen outside the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center on Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority members are celebrating Vice President Kamala Harrisâ inauguration, across the country.
Harris is a proud member of AKA, the nationâs oldest African American Greek-lettered sorority.
Some of her local sorority sisters even mimicked her signature style for the big day.
âI am so glad my soror is in the White House. This is huge,â said AKA Sorority Member Candis Moore.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Vice President Kamala Harris has made history as the first woman, first Black and first South Asian to hold the position.
She credits her time at a historically Black college, Howard University, with preparing for a life of public service.
Students at Prairie View A&M University proudly watched Wednesday’s ceremony at the Memorial Student Center. Some students were emotional and felt inspired by President Joe Biden and VP Harris.
“It’s a good day. It’s a great day because it seems like we lived through so many historical events this past year that it’s kind of like a breath of fresh air,” Donovan Burks, a senior student who is majoring in chemical engineering said.

WASHINGTON - Kamala Harris made history on Wednesday, becoming the United States’ first Black, first Asian and first female second-in-command, after being inaugurated alongside President Joe Biden.
But this is just one of many firsts for the country and for Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants. Her ascension to the vice presidency was marked by history-making moments.
Harris addressed the nation during the Celebrating America special following the inauguration Wednesday evening.
The vice president highlighted the trailblazing women who paved the way for her history-making moment, as well as public figures who changed the nation, including Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the women who worked tirelessly for equal rights.

DALLAS People across North Texas took time Wendesday to recognize a moment in history in their own unique and symbolic ways.
In Dallas, Inauguration Day was a celebration for a small group of women.
”I am overjoyed with excitement to be able to witness this historic moment,” said Andrica McDade.
