KWU’s Alpha Chi chapter earns national honor

Kansas Wesleyan University’s chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society has been named a Star Chapter, one of the organization’s top honors. KWU is one of just 20 chapters in the United States to be so honored, and the only such chapter in Kansas.
The award honors chapters for meeting several criteria: inducting members locally, registering at least one faculty member and one student to attend the annual convention, having at least one student registered to present on the convention program, nominating at least one student for a national Alpha Chi fellowship or scholarship and sponsoring at least one on-campus program in promotion of scholarship.
Betty deHebreard HILTON HEAD ISLAND Betty deHebreard was born September 21, 1942, to Herman and Dorothy Prange in Indianapolis, IN, a first generation American, which she was so proud of. Her German heritage and German family remained a dominant point of pride throughout her entire life. It was in kindergarten where she met her future husband Pete. They went on their first date in junior high school and would have been married for 57 years on January 18, 2021. After graduating from Southport High School, she attended Indiana University, where she graduated with a B.S. in Business Education. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The lasting friendships she made at Alpha Chi continued throughout her life with regular, lively reunions in Arizona, South Carolina, and Michigan.
Having the condition herself, the Chino Hills resident has experienced living in fear of having a seizure.
âI never knew how much a part anxiety played in my life,â Ms. Garcia said. âI had to recognize that overthinking can take over your entire life.â
Ms. Garcia, who is attending the University of Arizona in Tucson, established âThe Brooklyn Foundationâ in honor of a fellow student who was a member of the Zeta Beta Chi Omega sorority.
Ms. Mengarelli died in April from an epileptic seizure while sitting in a hot tub.
The two had never met.
âShe was amazing and a beautiful young woman. She had her life together,â Ms. Garcia said, who belongs to a sister sorority on campus, Alpha Chi Omega.
