1,450 govt schools have internet facility: Pradhan
New Delhi: As many as 1,450 government schools in Odisha have internet connection through broadband services, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Lok Sabha.
Responding to a written question regarding internet connectivity in government-run schools across the country, the Union Minister informed the Lower House that under the BharatNet programme, the CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) set up by the Ministry of Electronics & IT, has been assigned the task of providing Fibre To The Home (FTTH) connectivity to government institutions including schools. Pradhan said that 1,19,581 government schools have been connected with internet across the country.

HDFC Bank acquires 10% stake in CSC Grameen, launches AI chatbot Eva

HDFC Bank has acquired a 10% stake in CSC Grameen e-Store, a special purpose vehicle run by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, for an undisclosed amount, the Economic Times reported. The partnership between the country’s largest private bank and CSC Grameen aims to deliver and scale access to financial services and banking products to semi-urban and rural customers.
CSCs, or Common Service Centres, are a government initiative to provide rural jobs to Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLE) who act as agents for enrolling citizens into government schemes. CSC Grameen is a subsidiary CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd across the country which provide e-commerce, banking and finance as well as government services entirely through digital means. In a recently affidavit to the Supreme Court, the Central government recently appeared to have taken cognisance of the digital divide in the country and said that registration for vaccines will be done through Common Service Centres (CSC) in rural areas. As a result of this decision, the government effectively could create National Health IDs, as part of the National Digital Health Mission, en masse through these centres which historically have been enrolment points for various government initiatives including the Aadhaar project.
CSCs’ are IT Ministry physical centres spread across the country to provide public utility services, social welfare schemes, healthcare, financial, education and agriculture services to citizens without direct access to such services.
