(WBRC) - The Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee passed Senate Bill 126 on Wednesday. The bill, if approved by the full legislature, would allow home delivery of distilled spirits in original containers from package stores, and from restaurants and bars with a meal purchase, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS). According to the text of the bill, it would also provide for delivery of beer and wine from licensed establishments directly to folks over the age of 21 for their personal use.

Richard Raymond, D-Laredo, last month introduced a bill striking down Texas existing prohibition-era ban on the sales of distilled spirits on Sundays. The barring of booze sales is one of the last, desperate remnants of so-called “blue laws put into place to prohibit the sale of certain goods on Sundays. At the time those regulations were introduced, the intent was to give folks a day of rest to spend at church and with family. But the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States now estimates that the prohibition hinders the state from collecting $7.8 million to $15.6 million in annual tax revenue.

On Tuesday, Uber announced its plan to purchase Drizly for $US1.1 ($1.5) billion, expanding its grip on the gig worker-powered delivery ecosystem. Photo by Daniel Cavazos Texas State House Representative Richard Raymond continues his heroic quest to allow us to buy liquor every day of the week with the introduction of HB 937, a new bill striking down the state s Prohibition-era ban on distilled spirits sales on Sundays. The bill would also extend the hours at package stores: Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 10 pm, and Sunday from 12 noon to 10 pm. Since 2002, 21 states have passed laws permitting sales on Sunday, bringing the total to 43 states.
