Not that many young riders can say that they rode their very first Young Riders test on an Olympic team horse. For 18-year old American Maja Cornwell a dream came true last weekend, when she went down the centerline on Breaking Dawn, Ashley Holzer s 2012 London Olympic team ride.
Breaking Dawn
Breaking Dawn is a 20-year old Dutch warmblood gelding by Akribori out of Eveline (by Ronald x Vesins x Brigadier). He is bred by W. van Kessel.
He was purchased as a foal by the Dutch stable Flemming and named Ultiems Flemming. Under Patrick van der Meer he competed up to small tour level and trained to Grand Prix.

Canadian Olympian Jaqueline Brooks said goodbye to her first Grand Prix horse, Finnegan. He would turn 33 in spring.
Finnegan was a 1988 born Oldenburg gelding by Almeo out of Annelie (by Admiral I - Magister/T). He was bred by Josef Greten in Molberg, Germany.
Gift for Diploma
Finnegan came into Brooks life as a gift for achieving her diploma at the University of Western Ontario in 1990. Her parents, Eric and Mary Brooks, bought Finnegan as a rising 3-year old in Germany in 1991. I was a working student with Ashley Holzer and saw Finnegan on a video at a dinner party at Tim Dutta’s when I was 23, Brooks told Eurodressage.

Longtime Palm Beacher and Warhol friend Jane ‘Baby Jane’ Holzer sells house for $7.55M: deed
Holzer inherited her house, which was built by her late parents and just sold for $7.55 million at 147 Dunbar Road. In the 1960s, Holzer was among the late artist Andy Warhol’s coterie in New York.

Worth Avenue landlord Jane Holzer who became famous in the 1960s as “Baby Jane” Holzer, when she starred in avant-garde films made by the late Andy Warhol has sold her longtime house on the near North End.
The deed for 147 Dunbar Road was recorded Friday at $7.55 million. The house stands in the ocean block of Dunbar Road, about a half-mile north of The Breakers.

After the COVID-abbreviated 2020 season, the Festival is underway with lots at stake. Qualifications are on the line for everything from summer Olympic consideration to national championships. Extra time to train at home will likely translate to heated competition at all levels.
