Boyd COVID-positive deaths hit 40

A 79-year-old male and a 56-year-old male have died after having tested positive for the coronavirus. All 21 new cases are of the home-isolation variety. Eleven males, from ages 5 to 54, and 10 females, ages 10 to 65, tested positive most recently. There have been 1,563 recoveries among Boyd County residents. The Greenup County Health Department had not issued a report as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, but it announced 30 more cases late Tuesday. The county’s case count stands at 1,940. The Carter County Health Department listed 26 new cases late Tuesday. In all, there have been 1,088 cases, including 820 recoveries, 200 currently isolating at home, 15 hospitalizations and nine COVID-positive deaths. Forty-four cases in Carter County are attached to nursing homes.

Boyd jailer responds to complaints

KEVIN GOLDY | THE DAILY INDEPENDENT CATLETTSBURG Boyd County Jailer Bill Hensley said, yes, the detention center was allowing COVID-negative inmates in the same cell as positive-testing inmates, but only in certain situations approved by the local health department. Accusations and complaints have been flying around on social media and from families to the jail, Hensley said, but he assured that the jail staff is doing its best to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus amid a challenging time. Overall, he said, there have been 193 positives and 143 negatives among employees and inmates in the latest round of testing.

Four more COVID-positive deaths in Boyd

The Ashland-Boyd County Health Department has reported four COVID-positive deaths over the past two days. The health department announced three on Monday. A 46-year-old male, 72-year-old female and 91-year-old female died after having tested positive for COVID-19. A 74-year-old female, it listed in Tuesday’s report, has also died after having tested positive. The four deaths bring the toll to 38. Forty-three new positive cases were listed on reports from the last two days, including 20 on Monday and 23 on Tuesday. There have been 2,601 positive tests among Boyd County residents, including 1,355 recoveries. Forty-two of the most recent 43 cases are in home isolation. One — a 72-year-old male — is hospitalized.
