The front offices of the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays will spend most of Friday pondering various trade scenarios.
Then, three hours after the deadline, the Red Sox visit the Rays for the opener of a three-game series in St. Petersburg, Fla., between the top two teams in the AL East who willsee each other often over the final two months.
Friday is the seventh meeting of the 19-game season series, and the Red Sox are 4-2 so far. Boston won the first four meetings before the Rays got a pair of home wins, June 23-24.
