WASHINGTON Every aspect of life in Central Texas that has been tamped down by the pandemic is about to get a financial boost.
The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, signed by President Joe Biden last week, will provide most Americans with $1,400 checks, the best known aspect of the package, designed to help the nation recover from the coronavirus crisis. But it also provides relief by targeting services and businesses that have felt the pandemic’s searing impact, from restaurants to schools, universities, health care facilities and local governments, including city-owned Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
More than a half-billion dollars are destined for local governments in Central Texas, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin, said.

Southwest Airlines and ultra-low-cost competitor Spirit Airlines each booked new routes from Dallas-area airports to Florida, hoping to add summer getaway spots with airlines expecting a surge in demand.
Southwest Airlines started flying nonstop from Dallas Love Field to Miami International Airport on Thursday, part of a flight schedule expansion that also includes routes from the South Florida airport to Nashville, Atlanta and Denver.
