Photo courtesy of City of Austin A six-mile stretch of abandoned railroad could be on track to become Austin s next urban trail. Once part of the Union Pacific Railroad serving the defunct Bergstrom Air Force Base, the Bergstrom Spur would become a hybrid urban trail and public transit corridor. On December 9, Austin Public Works Urban Trails Program and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization released a hefty, 129-page study deemed the Bergstrom Spur Platinum Planning Study Report. It provides a detailed plan for creating a multi-use public trail beginning at Vinson Drive, in Southwest Austin, heading east to US-183 near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Hawaiian Airlines adds new nonstop flights from Orlando, Austin

USA TODAY Although the coronavirus surge continues to worsen in the U.S., Hawaiian Airlines is giving travelers from Texas and Florida something to look forward to in the spring. The Honolulu-based carrier announced Tuesday that it is adding nonstop flights from Orlando and Austin in March and April, respectively. The Orlando International Airport route will begin March 11, with two weekly flights to Honolulu aboard a 278-seat Airbus A330 aircraft. It will be Hawaiian s third-longest route after Boston and New York.  “We are thrilled to announce that Central Florida residents can look forward to nonstop service to Hawaii, and that Orlando International Airport is officially Florida’s connection to the Aloha State,” said Phil Brown, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “This new service represents a significant investment that will strengthen economic, leisure and cultural bonds between two of the country’s top tourism destinations.”
