APSU music professor s CD sheds light on 19th century German composer

Clarksville Now CLARKSVILLE, TN – Several years ago, when Jeffrey Williams was a graduate student at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, one of his professors ended the semester by playing representative recordings of composers he wished they had more time to cover in class. One of the recordings he played was a choral work for male voices. The charm of the work caught Williams off guard. “He was playing recordings of composers we didn’t get to cover in the class, and he played a choral piece by Heinrich Marschner,” Williams said. “I just thought it was so beautiful.”

Black History Month celebration this weekend with performers, food trucks

Clarksville Now CLARKSVILLE, TN – Montgomery County Government along with the City of Clarksville, Austin Peay State University, Clarksville Housing Authority and Clarksville Hispanic American Family Foundation have joined together to host an educational and fun Black History Month special event on Saturday, Feb. 20, from noon to 3 p.m. in Veterans Plaza, located at 350 Pageant Lane. The event will feature performances honoring Black history from the 1940s through 2020, including the storytelling of Black heroes, artists and inventors. Music, poetry, and dance will also be a part of the celebration. A variety of vendors and food trucks will be on-site and there will be outdoor warming stations.

Talia Corn named APSU s student leader of the month | Education

Austin Peay State University’s Office of Student Life and Engagement has announced its 2020 student leaders of the month. Talia Corn of Franklin County, a senior at APSU, was named student leader of the month for November 2020. She was nominated by Jo Baldwin and Lynne Halliburton for her work supporting the university’s COVID-19 case work as an unpaid intern. She is working toward a degree in health and human performance. Student leaders of the month at APSU are selected based on their willingness to go above and beyond their responsibilities as well as their dedication to serving their peers.

Peggy Anne Martin Kirschten

Peggy Anne Martin Kirschten, 86, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021, after a period of declining health. She was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, to the late Edith Fuller Martin. Peggy grew up in Hopkinsville and attended Austin Peay State University briefly before moving to Louisville. She had a beloved group of friends in Louisville who shared good food and fun through weekly dinner parties, annual beach trips, and lots and lots of laughs. Peggy retired to Hillsborough in 2005 to be closer to her sons Paul and Jon. She met a group of dear friends through Curves who stopped exercising when it closed but continued to meet for lunch weekly. She was a loyal friend, having remained close with grade-school classmates. Peggy cultivated beautiful gardens everywhere she lived and loved to watch and identify the birds who visited her feeders. Beloved and slightly deranged dogs and cats accompanied most of her life’s journey. Her wacky sense of humor and unique sense of style endeared
