Walter Chalmers Smith 1824-1908 penned the famous hymn Immortal Invisible, God only wise but few know that his second stanza s first two words were quoted by Adolf Hitler in his description of the game of cricket.
Very few people know that Adolph Hitler played cricket when recuperating from injury at the end of WWI (there were British POWs nearby). He was recuperating from being gassed and would walk across the the British POW camp and watch the cricket matches.
Having done this for some time, he challenged the Brits to a game and gave cricket the insightful motto: (Ohne Hast, ohne Rast) - Unhasting, Unresting .

This is no longer a surprise – some years ago the Sydney Morning Herald reported that public schools did better than private school students in the HSC.
Even in my own experience and as a parent of now four adult children and a grand parent, a life time of interest in education and policy matters, the overwhelming input into a child s education are the parents. This has been borne out by numerous educational responses from Christian schools, Catholic schools and the public sector.

Many people, old and young have hearing issues. I’m reliably told that those with hearing impairments ‘can hear’ when offered a raise by the boss. And young women who are hoping against hope ‘can hear’ when their beloved opens the engagement ring box while on bended knee.
Another of my Dad jokes is that I have at times trouble talking (due to a longstanding stutter) and my wife, Delma, has trouble hearing (due to a congenital problem), hence 44 years of marriage bliss, I can t talk and Delma can t hear!!

This is my 44th year in Christian ministry and it s remarkable to look back and rejoice in what the Lord has done in one s life s ministry. In the midst of this have been some amazing people who have been mentors.
This is a tribute to one of these, the late Reverend Roger Reid. Roger loved Delma and me in our early years in Christian ministry and it was his wisdom that saw the development and growth of the sports ministry I was blessed tgo initiate and found.
Reverend Roger Reid was the foundation Chairman of the Sports and Leisure Ministry. Five years ago Roger documented for the first time, why in 1982, the InterChurch Trade and Industry Mission (ITIM) and Heads of Churches supported me, a young Baptist minister, vision for ministry into professional sport.
