Fidelity – the book has some wisdom

A recent Sydney Morning Herald article described a situation in the United States when a husband when using his wife s private password on their shared computer, so as to read her G-mail, discovered from these emails a dalliance of adultery. The article went on to explain that after Leon Walker, 33, of Michigan, discovered this adultery, his wife Clara Walker filed for a divorce, which was granted in December. In the Australian context and most Western countries there is no fault divorce, so you do not even have to prove adultery or any other transgression to obtain a divorce. Mr Walker was obviously peeved, as he told The Oakland Press of Pontiac that he was trying to protect the couple s children from neglect and called the case a miscarriage of justice.

The King James Bible – this is a story!

The making of the King James Bible bought to light a number of fascinating aspects of its translation and final preparation. One of these final checks was that it was read aloud, as it would be read aloud in church each Sunday. Sometimes words were substituted to ensure the sound of the language flowed. This remains a hallmark of the King James Bible of 1611, which has facilitated its poetic quality and ease of memorisation, which generation after generation has engaged in.

Winston Churchill  -  Easter connection

Photo - Winston Churchill - Pixabay Of the many things I might associate with Easter, surely something on Winston Churchill might be better left for Anzac week. But there has been some very interesting material recently coming out about his life that in might relate in some measure to Easter. Winston Churchill was a larger than life public figure when I was growing up during the 1950s. Although he was the wartime Prime Minister of Great Britain, his legends and his pronouncements were well-publicised in the Anglophile Australia of that time. Many adult men of our acquaintance had been overseas fighting during World War II, or had been in protected occupations growing food, as my father was; and many children of the time had a parent or grandparent who had come from England, as I did.

Truth  -  a heavy obstacle

Photo  -   Tronson du Coudray art “Ascension”   The five biggest money mistakes - I found this in my archive from a Sydney Morning Herald article. With Easter upon us, l realised this could so easily be converted into an article for church growth and church facilities construction as to how best to handle such debt and investments. The article was highlighted by a first sentence which read: One wrong decision can put your financial future at severe disadvantage and so too a church building debt decision. The five money mistakes are (1) not understanding transaction costs, (2) savings and mortgage issues, (3) insurance, (4) off-the-cuff comments and finally, (5) frightened by a little immediate pain.

Better comprehension comes with a grasp of theology

Photo  -  Tronson du Coudray art “Lines of Life”   One of the key instructions I give in my ministry to Christian young writers and new converts in following Jesus is that of Jesus words, that the sun and rain fall on the just and unjust / righteous and unrighteous, in reference to His grace upon all mankind. In this my 42 nd  year in Christian ministry I am more than ever convinced that good theology leads to a better understood life, that is an overall more balanced view of all that happens in the world around, our families, friends, sports, the workplace, in sickness and in health.
