Russia recorded almost 30,000 excess deaths during February, the country’s statistics agency announced Friday a figure which takes Russia’s total excess fatality count since the start of the coronavirus pandemic above 422,000.
The developers of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine said Friday that they have come up with technology that “updates” the jab to protect against new, more-contagious strains of the virus.
Russia s Supreme Court on Thursday has upheld the country s nationwide mask mandate.
Russia has approved what it says is the world’s first coronavirus vaccine for pets, the state veterinary service said Wednesday.
More recently, several countries briefly halted their use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine amid safety concerns, a move that baffled health experts and raised questions about future uptake.
The World Health Organization expressed concern earlier this week that the region s ongoing coronavirus crisis now appears more worrying than it has for several months. The warning comes as many countries introduce new measures in an attempt to curb a third wave of infections.
The health agency also described Europe s vaccination campaign as unacceptably slow and said it was crucial to speed up the rollout because new infections are currently increasing in every age group apart from those aged 80 years or older.
Bulgaria to Receive 1,259,728 Additional Vaccine Doses Starting from April
Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia and Slovakia will receive a total of 2,854,654 additional doses of vaccines as a sign of solidarity. This decision was reached yesterday at a meeting of
EU ambassadors in Brussels, the Portuguese Presidency of the
EU Council announced, as quoted by BTA.
The quoted amount will be shared between the five countries proportionally according to the population.
The 19 other
EU countries will receive 6.66 million doses under the same rule. The additional doses are provided by Pfizer and will be delivered to the
EU in the second quarter of the year.
