An Australian MP has gone to court to ask for a Northland woman to be imprisoned over her “disgraceful” Facebook posts. Dr Anne Webster, a social worker and National Party of Australia MP based in Mallee, Victoria, won a defamation proceeding about the matter in 2020 in the Australian Federal Court. The court heard Karen Brewer, who is originally from Australia, had posted a series of seven posts and videos making serious allegations about Webster, her GP husband Dr Philip Webster, and their not-for-profit organisation Zoe Support Australia.

Royal Caribbean is pursuing legal action against some victims of the Whakaari/White Island tragedy in a bid to stop them from suing the company.
The cruise giant has applied to the Australian Federal Court in an attempt to prohibit two families affected by the disaster from pursuing legal proceedings in the US, according to
Marie and Stephanie Browitt, two Australians who lost family members to the tragedy and an American couple named Paul and Ivy Reed, who suffered severe injuries, have launched separate legal proceedings in Florida, where the company is based.

Most of the people on White Island when it erupted were on a day trip from Ovation of the Seas, a cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean.
