EXCLUSIVE: Albanese defends Labor policy during the pandemic

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has touted The Australian Labor Party’s policy platform and critiqued the Morrison Government’s 2020 performance during an exclusive interview with Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. Mr Albanese defended himself against the accusation he had failed to deliver the policy he promised in January 2020, blaming the pandemic and saying the ALP had decided to put the nation before politics. “Australians wanted us to put the national interest before partisan political interest. We did that,” he said. He argued Labor had put forward constructive suggestions which were “taken on board” by the Morrison government. “It was Labor that put forward the plan for wage subsidies that became JobKeeper”. “It was Labor who were arguing last year that New Start, which became JobSeeker, needed to be increased. “It was Labor that put forward issues such as quarantining. We continued to raise issues such as the stranded Australians overseas.
