A group of trade unions is preparing legal action against the Labor Party to challenge the seizure of control of the Victorian division by the national executive.
The Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union and other unions have been briefed by lawyers on a legal challenge to the federal intervention, which was prompted by allegations last year of mass fake membership, three party sources said.
Taking legal action would pose a challenge to the authority of federal and state leaders, including Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.Â

The first step was likely to be a letter of demand to the national executive to allow the Victorian division to choose parliamentary candidates for the next state and federal elections, one union official said.
