Jobs boom: A Sydney construction worker
Thousands more apprentices will be helped to get jobs this year as Scott Morrison extends a 50 per cent wage subsidy for new trainees while the economy recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The prime minister has removed the 100,000-person cap on the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements scheme after the places filled up in just five months.
The policy was due to stop on September 30 but now any apprentice hired before then will have their wages subsidised for a whole year from the day they start.
Mr Morrison expects the extension will help another 70,000 apprentices get jobs at a cost of $1.2billion to taxpayers.
The Prime Minister has nominated clean, affordable energy, a skilled and scaled-up workforce and digital advance as key to the post-pandemic economic rebound.
