When Treasurer Josh Frydenberg delivers his federal budget speech next Tuesday evening, he will almost certainly herald the success of the governmentâs JobKeeper program, which bolstered the economy throughout the pandemic.
The program, like others implemented in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, was an economic lifeline designed to keep businesses afloat and nearly 3.5 million people employed. It also had a fundamental flaw. The government couldnât force companies that recovered faster than expected and even their grew profits, to pay the subsidy back.

Electronic signing software platform vendor DocuSign this week announced the appointment of Dan Bognar as its group vice president and general manager for the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region.
Bognar comes to DocuSign with over 30 years technology sales, business consulting, and leadership experience. Previously Bognar held a variety of senior roles at Salesforce over the past nine years. He was the executive sponsor for many of Salesforce’s largest accounts and held positions such as chief operating officer for solution engineering, cloud sales and industries across Asia Pacific.
Dan Bognar has been appointed as the new group vice president and general manager of the Asia Pacific and Japan region for DocuSign.
The role was formerly held by Brad Newtown who moved to Cohesity in February to take the role of ANZ managing director.
The company said the appointment is part of its plans to extend its reach into APJ, and that Bognar will be based in Sydney.
Bognar has been working in the tech industry for more than 30 years, including in leadership roles for sales and business consulting. DocuSign will help define how people live and work for years to come, particularly in managing the agreements that shape their personal and professional lives, said Bognar.

New guide to elevate stakeholder voices to the board
The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has released a practical guide to help directors identify and elevate stakeholder voices to the board.
The guide was developed following the release of a consultation paper on the AICD’s Forward Governance Agenda – a program which sought to respond to debates on governance practice and standards.
AICD CEO and Managing Director, Angus Armour said boards need to understand the environment in which their organisation operates, including the interests and concerns of their stakeholders, in order to govern effectively.
“Over the past year we have seen examples of the damage that can be done when the stakeholder voice is lost in corporate decision-making.
