Described as the ‘ideal shopper’ by senior research consultant Stephanie Atto from Monash University’s Australian Consumer and Retail Studies (ACRS) unit, women are key for retailers. “Women are most frequently identified as the primary shopper within a household,” Atto says. “So even if men are interested in a particular product, it might be the female who is buying and deciding on it,” she says.
