NSW s most dangerous crime hours revealed | Ballina Shire Advocate

Crime by Amelia Saw Premium Content Think you re safest in broad daylight? Think again. The time you re most likely to fall victim to a sexual offence, be intimidated, stalked or harassed, or have your house broken into is on a weekday morning or afternoon. Figures from NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, obtained exclusively by News Corp Australia, reveal that in 2019 the peak time for sex offences was on a Wednesday afternoon, when 451 offences were recorded from midday to 6pm. However, all weekday afternoons saw sex offences rise to similar figures of approximately 400. That s four times as many sex offences as some other time periods.

Retail sales slow in December after stellar November

Retail sales slow in December after stellar November By Imogen Bailey | 25 January 2021 According to the preliminary figures, Australian retail turnover declined 4.2% in December.  However, when compared to December 2019, turnover rose 9.4%.  Speaking on the results, Australian Retailers Association CEO Paul Zahra said that the yearly comparison is a more accurate reflection of the state of retail.  We knew Christmas this year would be a challenge, given the threat of the virus, so it’s fantastic to see a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. The month-to-month data can be volatile, so we shouldn’t be disheartened by the fact retail turnover fell 4.2% in December compared to November.

Deal to import farm workers to Tasmanian quarantine before picking Victorian crops slammed as late

The interstate agreement means 1,500 Pacific Islands workers will fly in to Tasmania  to undergo taxpayer-funded quarantine before they go onto Victoria to work.  The state s fruit-picking industry had been hit hard by Australia s border closure during the coronavirus pandemic - with an estimated $38million worth of produce already lost because of the strict travel restrictions. Under the deal between Victoria and Tasmania, taxpayers will subsidise the quarantine of the foreign national workers in the first six months of 2021.

In the darkness of my home study, forged by the fire of coffee and an absolute commitment to pedantry, I have made it: the one spreadsheet to rule them all. The ultimate household budgeting system. More on that later. Credit:Alamy First, I was asked a great question this week: “What should people keep in mind when they’re trying to be smarter with their money?“ My answer – if I may be so modest – was even better: “That it really isn’t rocket science. Spend less than you earn – invest the rest.”
