Today’s data on job vacancies from the Australian Bureau of Statistics is more confirmation that Tasmania’s economy continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The data shows Tasmanian job vacancies grew by 50.4 per cent over the November 2020 quarter, which is the highest increase in the nation and double the growth seen nationally.

The ABS also confirmed an 11.6 per cent increase in engineering work completed in Tasmania in the September 2020 quarter, the highest increase in the nation.

The number of job vacancies in Australia increased by 23 per cent over the November 2020 quarter, according to new seasonally adjusted figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). On an annual basis, job vacancies were 12 per cent higher than November 2019.

“There were 254,000 job vacancies in November, which was higher than the pre-COVID level in February. This reflected the pace of recovery in labour demand in the second half of the year and labour shortages in some industries.”
