So you would think that it would be rather important that it ask about sexuality, particularly when we have no clear idea of the diversity of sexual orientation in Australia. Instead, the number of queer people in Australia are estimated from smaller surveys and studies.

Census instructions begin to hit letterboxes

Australian Treasury Instructions on how to complete the 2021 Census have started hitting the letterboxes of Australians. Ahead of the Census on Tuesday 10 August, 85 per cent of all households in Australia will receive a letter explaining how to complete the Census online or how to order a paper form. Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar said the letters would provide Australians with clear and concise instructions on how to complete the Census. “The upcoming Census will be vital in helping plan for the future of Australia. By giving people early guidance on how to complete their form on time and accurately, we are ensuring the 2021 Census will be a smooth and successful process,” Minister Sukkar said.
