Low interest rates not the key driver of price growth: PIPA

While record-low interest rates are usually linked to strong property price growth, new analysis from the Property Investment Professionals of Australia revealed that prices are less dependent on the cash rate than commonly believed.
With the record-low cash rate coinciding with strong market conditions, many have come to believe that low interest rates are the main driver for the exceptional price growth witnessed across the country.
But, according to PIPA chairman Peter Koulizos, several other drivers exist, with many said to yield more influence on price growth than interest rates.

2021 Census ready to operate in COVID safe way: Australia
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is ready to deliver a COVID safe and responsive 2021 Census.
Most people will complete the Census online with no contact from the ABS and all Census staff will operate under a COVID safe plan. The plan follows guidelines from federal, state and territory governments to keep the community safe.
Andrew Henderson, Census Executive Director and National Spokesperson said, “in the lead up to Census, we’ve undertaken extensive planning about how we engage with the community and ensure the safety of our staff during the pandemic.

Authorised Workers – 2021 Census Field Staff, South Australia
South Australia Police wishes to advise the community that Australian Bureau of Statistics Census staff are authorised to be in the field undertaking activities to enable households to complete their 2021 Census.
As per Emergency Management (Activities General No 3) (COVID-19) Direction 2021, Census Field staff are considered to be authorised workers for the Australian Bureau of Statistics, under Schedule 3 1(1)(zf):
Government or local government services (whether provided by government, local government or outsourced) determined to be essential by the relevant Chief Executive.
These activities will be contactless and involve hand delivery of Census information and paper form to letterboxes of dwellings to allow people/households to complete their Census ahead of Census night which is 10 August 2021.

“The Accommodation and food services industry has seen larger falls in payroll job than other industries during the pandemic. In the latest fortnight, states and territories with lockdowns saw falls in payroll jobs in the Accommodation and food services industry ranging from 4.0 per cent in New South Wales to 0.1 per cent in the Northern Territory. By comparison, Victorian payroll jobs in the Accommodation and food services industry rose 2.9 per cent across the fortnight, as restrictions eased after their early June lockdown.”
While some states and territories were not in lockdown during the fortnight to 3 July 2021, increased border restrictions affected interstate travel, contributing to a 3.0 per cent national fall in payroll jobs in the Transport, postal and warehousing industry.
