Daniel Andrews has dashed hopes of a last-minute plan to fly in thousands of seasonal workers and salvage what the agricultural sector says is a harvest season verging on crisis.
The premier on Thursday said he would consider bespoke quarantine arrangements for international students as universities stand to lose billions in fees and rent.
Pressure over seasonal worker plan11/01/2021|1min
Agriculture Minister David Littleproud has accused the Victorian government of ignoring an industry proposal to bring more seasonal workers into the state.
In October the Australian Fresh Produce Alliance put forward a plan to quarantine up to 200 seasonal workers a fortnight in Mildura to ease the shortage.
Under the proposal Aspen Medicine will run the quarantine facility, costing the state government $9 million to set up and a fee of $2,500 per person in quarantine.
Speaking to The Australian, Mr Littleproud accused the Andrews government of refusing to make a decision.
