Brisbane, May 8 : Brisbane is on verge of securing 2032 Olympic Games after Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) chief John Coates said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is conducting due diligence ahead of confirming the city as host of the quadrennial event.
Speaking to AOC members during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, Coates said that confirmation of funding by the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison s support had helped submit the priority guarantees to IOC President Thomas Bach .
Australia could provide logistical support to the US in the event of a conflict in the Taiwan Strait, academics said on Friday.
The academics’ comments on Canberra’s possible role in the Taiwan Strait came after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday in a radio interview with Melbourne’s 3AW said in response to questions about his government’s policy on Taiwan that Australia has “always stood for freedom.”

Friday s move was also the first time the global public health group granted emergency approval to a Chinese vaccine for an infectious disease. China s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine has already been administered to hundreds of millions of people in China and in other parts of the world, along with a second Chinese vaccine.
WHO s decision allows the Sinopharm vaccine to be included in COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access, or COVAX, an initiative to distribute vaccines to mainly poor countries. WHO has said it could decide on China s second main vaccine, made by Sinovac Biotech, as early as next week.

CANBERRA, May 7 (Reuters) - Australia will lift a ban on its citizens returning from COVID-ravaged India in a week, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Friday, as state officials reported that an outbreak in Sydney appeared to be contained.
Morrison stood by his decision to impose a biosecurity order last month barring all travel to and from India, a policy that drew heavy criticism from lawmakers, expatriates and the Indian diaspora.
Morrison said the travel ban, which was controversially backed by jail terms and financial penalties for anybody who attempted to circumvent it by flying via a third country, had prevented Australia s hotel quarantine system from being overwhelmed.
