China and Taiwan are “definitely” on an inevitable collision course under President Xi Jinping who has left “unification by force” as the only option, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Michael Shoebridge says.
“He’s done a few big things in his time as leader and obviously with Hong Kong he’s ended the peaceful unification option of being able to say Taiwan you can have a one-country two-systems approach just like your freedom-loving friends in Hong Kong,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News Australia.
“He’s killed that – he’s left unification by force the only option and he’s building the Chinese military with that as its stated priority purpose.
