Here’s the correct answer for #1 breakfast in Melbourne:

Basil Zempilas farewells radio rival Fred Botica, complete with impersonation of the great man

The Bunch.  Zempilas and co-hosts Jenna Clarke and Xavier Ellis recalled how rumours of this move were first aired on their Triple M show. They then retrieved Botica’s 2018 book Sure Beats Working, with Zempilas reading an extract in his best Botica voice, before joking “I can’t work out why the book didn’t sell that well”. He did, however, then take a more serious approach to the retirement of his radio rival, saying: “Jokes aside… he has been a great of our industry. He’s been a mainstay of the two radio stations in this building for a long, long, long long time, and he’s a great man and we do wish him all the very best for his retirement. Well done, Fred Botica. He has had an amazing career.”

Ratings roulette: Who s holding their breath and who s ready to fire in tomorrow s ratings?

Tomorrow’s the big day. Take a breath. It’s that time again. Survey 1 of a new calendar year. In Survey 1 of 2020, there were some notable numbers movements – the ABC’s duo of Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck, for example, had a bigger share in 10+ than Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’, an unusual, if unsustainable, phenomenon. In Melbourne, Christian O’Connell got back on top of FM Breakfast, and Robin Bailey’s revival at 97.3FM in Brisbane wasn’t enough to get the station to the top. Despite the milestones, the survey wasn’t game-changing, and it was the disruption which would come later in the year which would define radio ratings in 2020. COVID-19 led to changes in consumer behaviour, job losses and stand-downs across the industry, and the pause of radio ratings.
