ATSB CEO replacement announced

written by Hannah Dowling | July 28, 2021 Maritime safety veteran Angus Mitchell has been appointed as the next CEO of the ATSB (ATSB) The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has announced the appointment of 30-year maritime transport safety veteran Angus Mitchell as its new chief commissioner and chief executive. The news comes after the recently announced retirement of current CEO Greg Hood, who stepped down from the role on 30 June at the end of his five-year term. Mitchell joins the ATSB from Maritime Safety Queensland, where he spent the last 2.5 years as general manager, and was responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient movement of vessels into and out of Queensland’s 21 ports.

Regional airports to use $1 34m in grants to strengthen aerial firefighting capabilities

written by Hannah Dowling | July 28, 2021 A total of $1.34 million has been awarded across four regional airports in the second round of the federal government’s Regional Airports Program, specifically to improve their aerial firefighting capabilities. The federal government has just released the airports that have been awarded grant funding for upgrades in the second round of the $100 million Regional Airports Program (RAP). Advertisement Advertisement Under the RAP’s second round of grant offerings, nearly $30 million was provided to a total of 89 regional airports and their operators for necessary repairs and upgrades. Of the 89, four in particular have been granted funding in order to better support local firefighting efforts, after Australia last year saw its worst bushfire season in recent history.

Nova Systems has announced it’s signed up its 300th subcontractor company. The Australian defence and aerospace firm has agreed a deal with Queensland-based Revolution Aerospace, a start-up with a mix of both service and product offerings focused on drones. “We believe the opportunity to access Nova’s panels and networks alleviates a fairly big business development burden for our company and allows us to concentrate on delivering capability to our clients,” said Revolution Aerospace’s CEO, Dr Terry Martin.
