Local practice Bent Architecture created a neighbourhood-like complex of accommodation and communal facilities for support
Located in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs, the WAYSS Youth Transition Hub – commissioned by Australia’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and designed by local practice Bent Architecture – provides a home and support network to vulnerable young people on the brink of homelessness.
Following a model of early intervention, the hub provides facilities and support to teenagers, mostly between 16 and 18, who have either left or been kicked out of home and would otherwise end up living on the streets. Alongside eight residential dwellings for stays typically lasting up to a year, WAYSS provides communal facilities and programmes to build community and equip young people with skills for independent living.

Unsatisfactory results from trials of Australia s Covid-19 vaccine have forced the country to opt for buying vaccines from abroad.
The University of Queensland, or UQ, and global biotech company CSL confirmed on Friday that they had abandoned trials of an Australian Covid-19 vaccine after recipients generated HIV antibodies during phase one tests.
The development came as a blow to dozens of the country s leading scientists who have been working on the project for most of the year. This is a reminder of the stark reality of vaccine development, said Sanjaya Senanayake, a specialist in infectious diseases and associate professor of medicine at the Australian National University in Canberra.

The Australian government canceled its homegrown covid-19 vaccine development plans with the University of Queensland on Friday after vaccine trial participants showed “false positives” in tests for HIV. The Australian vaccine was developed using a protein fragment of HIV called Gp41 that’s used to stabilize the inoculation.

The Australian vaccine was still in Phase 1 trials with just 216 volunteerparticipants, but researchers had been working on development of this vaccine for nearly 11 months. The vaccine didn’t show any other safety concerns, aside from the false positive HIV tests, but that alone would simply be unacceptable if it occurred in the general populat
