A 9-year-old boy had to be rescued from the West Buttermilk lift over the weekend and was dropped approximately 23 feet to pads placed below the lift, according to an Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman.
The boy’s mother, fashion designer and reality TV star Rachel Zoe, said in a social media post that Skyler “fell 40 feet from a ski lift” and while she was angry with the lift operator she thanked the ski patrol. The child sustained minor injuries.
The incident happened about 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the beginner area known as West Buttermilk.
Skico spokesman Jeff Hanle said in an email Tuesday that the boy got on the four-person lift at the midway station with his father, Rodger Berman, and a ski pro. It was unclear how the boy got into the trouble after that. Hanle said the lift stopped when the child was near tower 7, which is the first tower after the midway station where the group loaded.

Now that indoor private parties and gatherings have been prohibited through the holiday season in Pitkin County, area businesses that service said soirees should take note.
Pitkin County public health officials signaled a willingness this week to punish party rental outfits, caterers, parking valets and others who make their living off the Aspen area’s traditionally numerous private holiday parties and events.
“It’s something we will be looking at,” Pitkin County Manager Jon Peacock told county board members Tuesday. “(But) private gatherings, frankly, are hard to catch.”
Markey Butler, chair of the Pitkin County’s health board, said Monday that catering companies that serve private parties this holiday season in violation of public health orders need to be told “we will yank their (business) licenses.”
Aspen developer Nikos Hecht was arrested Thursday night after emergency dispatchers received a call reporting a violation of a protection order.
Hecht, 50, faces three class 1 misdemeanors: domestic violence, harassment and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Additionally, he faces the class 2 misdemeanor of prohibited use of a weapon and violation of a protection order.
According to a Pitkin County Sheriffâs Office report from a responding deputy, Hecht was found sitting outside of a residence belonging to a protected party, undressed and bleeding from his finger. A black Range Rover belonging to Hecht was in the driveway, having crashed into another vehicle already parked in the driveway.
