Editor s note: Hard work
Yesterday, like much of the nation, I was glued to the news of the announcement of the verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin. While I breathed a sigh of relief that accountability for a life tragically lost had been recognized, I know that there is much work to be done to address racism, equity and justice for all.
President Stanley, in a
letter sent to the Spartan community last night, said, “I acknowledge that I will never be able to truly understand the pain and trauma experienced by those in our Black and African American communities and by other people of color. I remain steadfast in our commitment to rooting out racial inequities that affect members of the campus community.”
LANSING Two weeks from today, patients of the Cristo Rey Community Health Center can comfortably see their grandkids, shop for groceries and give some long-overdue hugs.
Doctors and volunteers administered 200 second doses of the Moderna vaccine Monday, part of a statewide pilot aimed at reaching vulnerable and underserved communities. Those include people with unreliable transportation, disabilities and language barriers that could prevent them from accessing a vaccine.
Cristo Rey was one of 22 health providers tapped for the program by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The health center received 400 doses of the two-shot vaccine for 200 people. Of those 200 vaccines, almost all of them went to vulnerable patients, with the occasional exception being made for a caregiver, said medical director Dr. Aimee Leisure-Martins.
Ingham County opens vaccine eligibility to all Michigan residents 16 and over

Until Monday, the Ingham County clinics were open only to people who live or work in the county. People move across county lines all the time, Health Officer Linda Vail said in a news release. Ensuring that everyone in the state who wants a vaccine can get a vaccine benefits us all. We are seeing the number of new cases soar across the state, and there is a sense of urgency with getting people vaccinated.

The Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education has been the home for showcasing livestock at Michigan State since 1996, but has undergone a transformation to help combat COVID-19 in the mid-Michigan area.
A COVID-19 vaccination center for Michigan State students to curb the spread of the virus among students has replaced the stage for livestock events.
The stage is normally used for showcasing livestock, such as cows or pigs, for auction, marking the end of their life as they are so
