CALUMET Cafe Rosetta is temporarily closed as the Calumet establishment works out a resolution with the state that would allow it to operate with a license after it was stripped for the restaurant’s flouting of COVID-19 restrictions.
Cafe Rosetta closed temporarily on Saturday, owner Amy Heikkinen said. On Thursday, Ingham County Judge Wanda Stokes ordered Cafe Rosetta to work with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) towards relicensing. If Cafe Rosetta did not comply with court orders, the court could potentially impose jail time.

The battle between the Iron Pig Smokehouse and the state continues as a contempt hearing was held on Monday.
The issue at hand was the restaurant violating the temporary restraining order put on them on Feb. 4.
Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Clinton Canady presided and will decide if the Iron Pig should face any punishment or fines.
During the hearing, the attorney representing the Iron Pig, David Delaney told Judge Canady the restaurant was hurt financially when they weren’t open for Super Bowl Sunday, and he should consider that when determining possible fines.
The opposing side argued other restaurants were hurting while The Iron Pig disobeyed orders put out by the health department.

In update on the Iron Pig Smokehouse in Gaylord, an Ingham County Circuit Court Judge upheld the temporary restraining order against the restaurant.
The order comes after disciplinary actions from the state because of the restaurant’s refusal to follow COVID-19 restrictions.
The restraining order means they aren’t allowed to sell, distribute, or advertise food and beverage services until Feb. 12.
Court documents say the lawyer representing the iron pig argued they were confused by both the restraining order and the recent order that allows restaurants to reopen dine-in service.
The judge ruled that the Iron Pig did not misunderstand these orders.
