Four arrested in 2020 police chase, shooting incident in Eaton Rapids
EATON RAPIDS – Police said they ve arrested four people in connection with an incident last summer in which a police car was struck by gunfire.
Three Eaton Rapids residents were arraigned on multiple counts Thursday or Friday in Eaton County District Court, while a Lansing man already in custody has yet to be formally charged, according to police and court records.
The charges stem from a police chase and shooting incident on June 8, 2020, Eaton Rapids police said in a news release.
An Eaton Rapids officer tried to stop the driver of a vehicle believed to be involved in a shots-fired incident in Hamlin Township. Someone in that vehicle fired a weapon at the pursuing officer, hitting the police cruiser. The officer was not injured and did not return fire, police said at the time.

HOLT – A 61-year-old woman died Saturday after a truck hit her as she crossed Cedar Street in Holt.
Dorothy Jo Ann Verschage, of Lansing, died after a 65-year-old Holt man struck her near the intersection of Willoughby Road around 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office. The Holt man was driving south on Cedar Street.
Police have not identified the driver.
The crash remains under investigation.

Ex-MSU Dean William Strampel released early from jail

William Strampel, former dean of Michigan State’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, was released from Ingham County Jail Thursday, according to the Lansing State Journal.
Strampel was sentenced to one year in jail by Judge Joyce Draganchuk in August, 2019. During his sentencing, he received one year each for two counts of willful neglect in his role as former MSU doctor Larry Nassar’s boss and 11 months for misconduct in office.
