Woman fatally shot in Dolton

Sun-Times file photo A woman was killed in a shooting Sunday in south suburban Dolton. Laresha Bowles, 36, was shot about 2:10 a.m. in the 14200 block of Ellis Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was pronounced dead about 3:05 a.m. at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found she died of a gunshot wound to her back and ruled her death a homicide. Dolton officials didn’t immediately reply to a request for details. Next Up In News

South suburban workers demand higher wages, saying other Chicago employees get paid more

Employees gathered outside Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey on Saturday to demand higher wages. They say that the University of Chicago system is paying them less than North Side counterparts because they work in the south suburbs. One worker says the biggest raise she's ever gotten is 33 cents an hour.

East Hazel Crest crash: Francine Johnson killed at 171st and Halsted

Adobe Stock Photo A 60-year-old woman died after a pickup truck crashed into her vehicle Wednesday in south suburban East Hazel Crest. Francine Johnson was driving south about 11:40 a.m. near 71st and Halsted streets when a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck her vehicle, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and East Hazel Crest police. Johnson died about 20 minutes later at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled her death an accident. The South Suburban Major Accident Team is investigating the crash. Next Up In News
